6. Corruption Is Part of Everyday Life
People condemn the jeitinho brasileiro – which roughly translates to the Brazilian way, or basically doing things in a way that benefits the individual – but they won’t stop doing it. So, for instance, people might jump the line because they know someone or keep the wrong change instead of giving back the extra cash.
These little transgressions, when compounded by a large percentage of the population, become a real problem. One could assume that the corrupt politicians are in fact a reflection of the cultural behavior.
