14. Cachaça
The most popular spirit in Brazil is cachaça, a distilled liquor made from sugar cane. It’s the primary ingredient in a caipirinha, the nation’s most famous cocktail. It isn’t exported often, but it can be found all over Brazil. Make sure to try both the unaged and aged varieties. The unaged is cheaper and easier to find, but the aged has a smoother flavor that’s ideal for drinking straight.
There are over 40,000 cachaça distillers in Brazil as of 2011, which gives you some idea of how enormously popular it is.
