5. Feijoada
Feijoada, often called the national dish of Brazil, is a thick bean stew, prepared in a clay pot. The dish is Portuguese in origin, and is found in other countries that were colonized by the Portuguese, but in Brazil, there’s a version called Feijoada à Brasileira that’s most common.
This version is made with black beans, and is flavored with a variety of different pork cuts including ribs, bacon, sausage, and trimmings like the ears and nose. Making it isn’t complicated, but it does take a long time, which is why it’s often served as part of a weekend or celebratory meal.
