The Greek volcano Nisyros has been relatively dormant for the last 130 years, which has allowed the local tourism industry to flourish. They’ve created tons of different opportunities for tourists to learn about the volcano. You can visit the 10 hydrothermal craters spread across the tiny island, or spend an afternoon in the village of Nikia, which literally overlooks the volcano’s caldera. Nikia is also home to the fascinating Volcanology Museum.

When you’re done hiking around the caldera, you can soothe your aching muscles with a dip in the Municipal Baths, where the water is heated using the volcano’s geothermal energy.
