Mount Merapi — Indonesia
Mount Merapi translates into English as “Fire Mountain,” which should give you some indication about how powerful this volcano is. It has been identified as one of the 16 most active volcanoes on Earth, and scientists are currently studying its history to try and predict its next eruption.
The last major eruption was in 2010, and luckily the Indonesian government was able to take a look at recent seismic activity and evacuate people that were living within a 12-mile radius. It’s technically illegal to climb Mount Merapi, but there are ways of procuring a guide to help you get to the peak.
