Hot Magma: Active Volcanoes You Can Visit
| September 10, 2018
Mount Yasur — Vanuatu
Located on the remote island of Tanna in Vanuatu, Mount Yasur is a major tourist attraction. It erupts regularly, but the eruptions are controlled enough that visitors can watch them from a distance without being in danger. The volcano has always been a major part of island life. In fact, it was the glow of the volcano that first drew explorer James Cook to the island, and there’s even a local cargo cult that believes that their deity, who they call John Frum, has made his home inside the volcano.
