7. Ibn Battuta

Ibn Battuta is another name you won’t find in the classic history books. He was a Moroccan explorer and scholar who was born in February 1304. For over 30 years, he traveled to most of the Muslim world, but also went as far as Southeast Asia.

When Battuta was 21 years old, he went on a pilgrimage to Mecca from Tangier. Then explored the Persian world and the Horn of Africa. On his journeys, Battuta eventually went to Constantinople, Central Asia, India, and Sumatra.
